This chapter considers the viability of national cinema cultures in an art form and mass entertainment medium so overwhelmingly dominated by Hollywood cinema. Irish cinema is used as a case study to explore notions of cultural imperialism and the relationship between the local and the global that is mediated through indigenous or national culture.
