Abstract

The Arkive City website was launched in October 2008. It explores the role of archiving in culture, and its relationship with the arts. It was developed from a series of five AHRC funded events collectively titled Peforming the Archive that took place at venues in Northern Ireland and England from 2006-2007. A range of experts from the world of arts, culture, academia and archives participated in the Peforming the Archive events. The website reviews and expands upon the variety of perspectives, projects and interests that the events featured. The website's map of locations is indicative of the variety and range of the field of practice. The Arkive City website content was produced by Interface Centre for Research in Art, Technologies and Design at the University of Ulster, Belfast, through the work of: Kerstin Mey, Grainne Loughran and Julie Bacon, Editor of the Arkive City anthology, also published in 2008 to accompany the website.
