Art Bench, Plumbridge. Limestone Bench made from six stone panles, based on local history and flora and fauna as part of Heart Sculpture Trail. 6M x 1M x .5M. Funded by Heart Sculpture Trail Programme. The artwork was constructed from a series of six Limestone Panels set on top of several Base Slabs. The upper surfaces of each of the slabs, was shot-blast with Imagery and text, and once pieced together they read as a historical and contextual artwork, which was based on local history, seasonal cycles, flora, and fauna. The image of a river flowed across the top of the bench passing through all six panels, which illustrates the passing of time and seasons and also refers to the Glenelly River which flows through Plumbridge and the whole beautiful valley of Glenelly. The Annual passage of the night sky was also represented in the form of circular constellations. The local community had a great input into the historical and contextual imagery used within the artwork as well as on deciding on its final location. This artwork formed part of HEART Sculpture Trail, which spans Tyrone and North Donegal. The Commission was selected through an Open Tender Commission Competition and was run by Strabane District Council and Donegal County Council. Funding was awarded via: DARD and Border Action through Measure 1.4 of the INTERREG IIIa Programme, The International Fund for Ireland, Strabane District Council and Donegal County Council, and the Private Sector.
