Abstract

Pair programming is an approach often used in industry to increase productivity and reduce programmingerror. Although it typically takes longer to program when working in pairs the resulting product is often ofbetter quality than that obtained when working alone. This paper extends this concept to pair programming inthe classroom by introducing it into a first year, second semester programming module to encourage andincrease student attendance and therefore enhance student engagement.
