A Human Rights collaboration (2005 -2010) in which UU students worked with the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (NIHRC), the Arts Council of Northern Ireland (ACNI) and the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland (CFNI) to communicate ideas and feelings about human rights issues. The project used animation and moving imagery to develop the work resulting in a series of public outputs, discussions and workshops, including: The Golden Thread Gallery: ‘A shout in the Street’, Collective Histories of Northern Irish Art, The Waterfront Hall: International Human Rights conference, exhibition, lecture and workshop, Belfast Exposed: Exchange Mechanism and a public projection in St. Anne’s Square, Belfast. The project team included students from the University of Ulster, School of Art and Design, Peter O'Neill, Chief Executive for the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and Christine Blaney, Lecturer in Visual Communication at UU, Belfast. The project received funding of £5,000 from NIHRC, ACNI and CFNI. The collaboration placed a social and cultural perspective on the students’ work, fostering thinking about human rights and young people in a post conflict environment.
