Autonomic computing is gradually becomingaccepted as a viable approach to achieving selfmanagementin systems and networks, with the goal oflessening the impact of the complexity crisis on thecomputing industry. The authors propose the integrationof high level self-organisation features into the ApplicationDirected Adaptive Framework (ADAF) which, whenembedded into software applications, enables thoseapplications to exhibit autonomic behaviour. This paperbriefly discusses the infrastructure of ADAF anddemonstrates two self-managing capabilities, namely selfmonitoringand self-diagnosis.
