Abstract

This article arose from a conference paper at a SUS.DIV conference (FP6 network of excellence). Aisling O'Beirn had here seminally contributed. It provided a good opportunity to disseminate the excellent art practice contributing to the thinking around diversity in Belfast subsequent to Joseph Beuys' visit and sustaining of networks here among artists. The still existing infrastructure and advanced capability present in the Belfast artworld in an area that one would now call "relational aesthetics" could be highlighted, contextualized and theorized here. The Beusian history that underpins this development makes this essay a good inclusion in the "Beuysian Legacies" volume.
