Abstract

This paper explores the planning, development and marketing of a new restaurant within a seaside resort and examines the issues facing such a business venture in the context of wider food tourism and destination branding. A case-study approach was followed on 55 Degrees North restaurant in the resort of Portrush on Northern Ireland's north coast. Semi-structured interviews with restaurant owners, managers and local tourism organisations was combined with survey work conducted with locals and visiting tourists.
