PDF - Supplemental Material

In October 2012, Golden and McComish were invited to present about their joint research as Urban Research Belfast and the context and lessons published in their co-edited book Machines for Experiential Urban Learning to a cross-disciplinary design conference in Dublin, organized by Fumbally Exchange. Fumbally is an innovation hub of “design-focused small businesses, sole traders and start-ups [who] aim to cultivate an atmosphere for creative and regenerative growth in a time of great challenges and volatility [and] believe in the capacity and influence of architects and designers to imbue real, exalting and economically measurable benefits to citizen and place” (http:// www.fumballyexchange.com, accessed 18October2013). Machines for Experiential Urban Learning is a co-edited book that presents qualitative research about inter-disciplinary experiential approaches to urban design. MEUL argues for a shift from object- to process-led design priorities, based on testing of a proposed design framework in Belfast. The book is published by PLACE Ltd (Planning, Landscape, Architecture, Community, Environment), Northern Ireland’s Architecture and Built Environment Centre.
