The impact of limitations has informed my work for several years. Until the mid 20th Century textiles were routinely re used, re made, re fashioned until they were rags. The current focus on sustainability, re use and re cycling isn't new. Having limited time but wanting to sustain an art practice led me to re assess how I make work. A few years ago I decided to impose limitations on my working process. I make a piece, document it, exhibit it for a year or two, then when it is returned I use elements of the piece as the starting point for another work. I use what I have, have collected, made or found. The process allows me to re visit old work, introduce new elements and continually re assess the work as it evolves. Sometimes the work gets bigger, or smaller, becomes a series. Sometimes the orientation or composition changes. From Collections 3 is as the title suggests the third reincarnation of this particular piece, and the most successful so far, that isn't always the case.
