The Maidens' City: A Herstory of The Walled City ScriptScriptOriginal Script based on 'The Maidens' City' walking tour which was researched , written and delivered by Anne Crilly. The central character I s Suffragette Margaret Cousins, Suffragette who leads the dramatized walking tour and interacts with other historical, contemporary and imagined characters. The script(draft 5) is written for three actresses who take on multiple characters. As a site specific piece of theatre on the Walls of Derry, it posed particular challenges. Experienced site specific writer /Producer PaulaMc Fettridge from Kabosh Theatre proved invaluable in research into site specific writing and performance.UNSPECIFIEDUNSPECIFIED
The Maidens' City: A Herstory of The Walled CityDVD coverThe striking DVD cover features actress Abby Oliveira in the central role of Suffragette Margaret Cousins. The content and design was developed in collaboration with Producer Patricia Byrne from Sole Purpose Productions and Graphic Desiigner Kieran Ferris, I decided it was crucial to have a single strong image on the cover - an image which would instantly communicate the essence of the dramatized tour. The period costume, the Suffragette 'Votes for Women' sash and the direct gaze of the actress all combine to instantly communicate ideas of strong women in history.UNSPECIFIEDUNSPECIFIED
The Maidens' City DVDDVDVideo documentation of the dramatized tour 'The Maidens' City: A Herstory of The Walled City'. DVD directed and produced by Anne Crilly, I decided to film the production twice on one day with two crews. My principal crew were talented and trusted filmmakers who I have worked with on a regular basis - Vincent O'Callaghan (1st Camera) and Otto Schlindwein (Editor & 2nd camera). They have both documented the earlier walking 'Herstory' tours which I delivered myself. They both went on the dramatized tours earlier in the week with myself and we discussed filming techniques. I decided to film for the most part in a 'Veritee'style - this would give the viewer the sense of being part of the tour,of being right alongside the tour guide and walking from location to location with the rest of the audience. This observational and participatory filming style worked effectively. The 2nd cameras were mainly used to take establishing shots of the tour audience from the vantage points along the Walls and this helped illustrate the site specific nature of the drama. They also filmed the dramatic epiisodes from different angles, took close-ups of audience reaction and some cutaways eg Bogside and Mural shots. I instructed the sound crew to concentrate on Margaret Cousins in the morning tour as she was the 'spine' of the narrative . The editing was straightforward in narrative terms but was complicated in matching different angles of the interactive episodes.UNSPECIFIED45''
