Abstract

Participation in ultra-endurance events has increased in popularity in recent years. Many of these ultra-endurance events have used sport and exercise theory as an interventional tool to quantifythe impact of the challenge. However, some challenges are unique, and include feats of incredible endurance in order to push the human body to its maximal limit. We describe a case study of asport psychologist providing support to an athlete prior to, during and following the completion of a challenge that involved walking the same mile, 1,000 consecutive times during 1,000 consecutivehours, thereby lasting 42 days.We also review and detail the experiences gained from a sport psychology perspective with the intention of sharing the applied experience amongst other sport psychologists and the wider community.
