The propagation of UWB signals for body-centriccommunications within a modern classroom/conference roomenvironment was investigated. Presented results demonstratethat the body-antenna mounting position has a marked impacton the received power levels and positioning the antenna on thechest as opposed to the shoulder or wrist creates more extremevalues in receive power, mean excess delay and rms delay spread.Additionally, the best fit models for each scenario are presentedand highlight the difference between the chest and othercompared antenna locations. The work concluded that the chestis a poor choice of mounting position for the antenna due tosignificant body shadowing effects, with the wrist or shoulderconsidered better options for UWB systems.
