An affluent and ageing society allows consumers to refine their approach tohealth because they now have the choice of striving for perfect health, as opposed tomerely living disease-free. The elderly are the most frequent users of health-relatedgoods and services. At the same time, the growth in tourism has come from short breaksin urban centres, thus as consumers strive to extend their healthy years the spa holidaymarket is growing. In the United Kingdom a number of factors have driven the growthof the urban spa break including the rise of the experience economy, awareness of thehealth benefits of spas and accessibility to greater supply. This research paper identifiesa number of key trends that are shaping the urban spa holiday market and future businessimplications thus allowing decision-makers an insight into the patterns of change that isoccurring now.
