Abstract

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial modelling play an important role in the enhancement of urban security policy and in informing mitigating measures and intervention strategies. This focus paper draws upon experiences, views and opinions garnered over the duration of the BESECURE project highlighting the need for urban security professionals to ensure that strategic and operational goals are adequately aligned with GI compliant data frameworks in order to optimise evidence based decision making.
