Abstract

I was awarded funding from Ulster University as part of its widening access and participation strategy to deliver 'A Peaceful Christmas' project. North Belfast has one of the highest suicide rates in Europe and this project was a way of initiating conversations around emotional wellbeing with young people in the area. I worked with PIPS Charity for suicide awareness, The Science Shop and two post-primary schools in North Belfast to design Christmas cards suitable to send to someone who had suffered a bereavement. The project delivery was carefully designed given the sensitive nature of the subject area and the young age of the participants. All of the designs created by the young people where shown in the gallery space on the Belfast campus. Six designs were chosen to be printed and sold, with proceeds donated to PIPS charity.
