Abstract

The Old Canal is an instrumental composition in waltz time, written in the folk idiom in the style of Canadian Fiddle Music. It celebrates a little known stretch of water on Lac des Chats on the Ottawa River near Pontiac Station Quebec which has been of significance to the composer's family for over five generations.The sole instrumental track on Kate Crossan's CD, "Away". Recorded at Basement Take Studio, Dublin, Ireland in March, 2014, mixed at Composers Music Production, Toronto, Canada in August, 2014. Performed by Lee Cadieux, concertina; Camille Chaparnaud, fiddle, viola and bass; Martin Tourish, accordion and harmonium.Engineered by Camille Chaparnaud, produced by Martin Tourish, mixed by John Herberman and mastered by George Seara. Perrmed by Lee Cadieux, concertina; Camille Chaparnaud, fiddle, viola and bass; Martin Tourish, accordion and harmonium.
