Abstract

This article discusses the Dublin Irish-language literary circles in which Seosamh Mac Grianna moved in the 1930s and from which he eventually became estranged. The onset of schizophrenia and his attachment to the monomyth are two of the various factors considered here in an assessment of Mac Grianna's complex relation to his peers. The article also compares the strategies employed by two of Mac Grianna's contemporaries, Liam O'Flaherty and Francis Stuart, in their relations with their peers and reading public.
