The project investigated how sensor technology might be applied to the Izak9 cube system with a view to recording the movement of the cubes over time and therefore providing a means to analyse how users addressed the mathematical problem. This raised a number of non-trivial questions, in particular, the cubes operate within a 3D space and therefore must be aware of not only their own movement, but also their interaction with nearby cubes. The primary objective of the investigation was to establish an appropriate sensor array which could: be fitted to existing hardware; continue to enable free movement of the cubes; provide the necessary data points.
