Abstract

In this paper I discuss how, as a ceramic artist embedded in Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens (SMWG) as part of an AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award project, I have attempted to develop an approach to collections-based community engagement through creative ceramic practice and museum display. I will show how new material dialogues have been established between the museum's nineteenth-century Sunderland lustreware pottery collection, its historical context, and the contemporary community of Sunderland.
