This exhibition examines typographic markers positioned in the graphic environment of Northern and Southern Ireland, focusing on the two capital cities of Belfast and Dublin and the connecting arterial route. Geographically located one hundred miles apart and politically situated in different states, Belfast and Dublin however, share a rich, varied socio-culture heritage. This work explores intrinsic accidental and intentional typographic markers. It explores notions of identity and place, national and cultural identity and examines typographic nuances and idiosyncrasies. Through the mapping and re-contextualising of the typographic environmentfrom Belfast to Dublin, 26 points/locations were selected and a letterform from each one was re-created enabling a 26 letter alphabet to formulate. By divorcing the letterforms from their original environment, they are presented as a new visual representation of the original. This exhibition presents this research through a series of screenprints and digital outputs.
